Rain Worthington – *Creating Contemporary Concert Experiences: Actionable Ideas for Cultivating Audience Engagement***

I was delighted to have been invited to present a talk at the [International Conductors Guild’s 2024 Conference](https://www.internationalconductorsguild.org/2024-registration-new-york-city-conference), January 4-6, 2024.

Dacher Keltner’s inspiring book [Awe](https://www.amazon.com/Awe-Science-Everyday-Wonder-Transform/dp/1984879685/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1692049545&sr=1-1) and recent scientific research into “musical awe” demonstrate that audiences, as a group, can synchronistically experience this transformative and mysterious energy. I was excited to offer ideas for energizing community engagement and developing “reflective concert formats” in which the encounter with orchestral music and the potency of awe can be maximized for audiences.
