My artist statement
As a composer and artist, I believe that creative expression is an elemental impulse of human nature and essential to humanity and am committed to the transcendent power of music and visual arts and the potency of awe. On a deep personal level, to cope with the staggering complexities and emotions of these times, I re-embraced an earlier passion for visual arts, transitioning to pursue a multidisciplinary artistic vision of ephemeral sculptural spaces infused with illumination and composed music. I am interested in presenting encounters with sculptural forms and immersive spaces that seem both familiar and unfamiliar. Using translucence and illumination to convey a sense of evanescence and non-linear emotional logic – juxtapositions of balance, concealment, disclosure, and suspended motion become energetically charged and emotionally animated. I also touch upon the primal need for shelter, the sanctity of spaces, and the power of contemplative environments. Incorporating music and video into the experience adds a time-based dimension and a visceral interior perspective, inviting the viewer to inhabit the work on an intimate scale. Through my work, I am seeking to tap into a channel of subliminal emotional associations to evoke responses of awe and compassion, and to deepen a sense of shared human experience.Exhibitions
